An independent agency, on purpose.

VCM was set up to do one thing: deliver sharper media planning and buying for clients who want results without the overheads of a holding-company agency. Two decades on, we’re still doing it.

Our story

VCM Ltd — Virtual Campaign Management — was founded by James Ferrin to operate as a full-service direct response agency without the inherited cost base of the major networks. The model is simple: experienced, senior people running campaigns directly, supported by a curated network of specialist partners where we need extra hands. No agency-of-record politics. No layers between the client and the people doing the work.

From the outset, the focus has been on direct response — campaigns judged by the metric on the brief, not by airtime served or impressions delivered. Today we work with clients across the UK, Republic of Ireland, France, the wider European market, the Nordics and the USA, with particular depth in fine art auction houses, sports and events, regulated claims management, and local business support.

We’re independent, properly

We’re not part of a holding company, we don’t have undisclosed group-buying obligations, and we’re not chasing internal P&L targets. The only relationship that matters to us is the one with you.

We move at the speed of the brief

Our late space specialism only works because we can act inside hours, not days. That same operating speed shapes everything else — quick decisions, fast turnaround on bookings, no waiting for sign-off through five layers.

We’re senior across the table

You meet the people running your campaign. You don’t get pitched by the senior team and then handed off to a junior account exec the moment the contract is signed. The person you meet is the person you’ll work with.

We measure honestly

We tell you what worked. We also tell you what didn’t, and what we’d change. That’s how partnerships last — ours have lasted 5, 10, 20 years.

The team

James Ferrin — Managing Director

James founded VCM and runs the agency day to day. Twenty years in media planning and buying, with particular depth in fine art auctions, late space and direct response across regulated sectors. Lives in Meopham, Kent. Believes media should work harder than it usually does and isn’t shy about saying so.

Our partner network

VCM is the agency you contract with. To deliver across every channel, we work with a small network of trusted partners who specialise in particular disciplines. The most established of these is Refine, our digital advertising partner, who handle technical execution on PPC, paid social, programmatic, native advertising and web development.

Beyond Refine, we use specialist partners for creative production, video, photography and copywriting on a project-by-project basis. You always have one point of contact at VCM. We handle the rest.
