Learn more →How we plan across channels
At VCM we don't start with a channel shortlist — we start with the brief. What does the campaign need to achieve, who does it need to reach, and what does a successful response look like? The channel mix follows from those answers.
We plan every brief against the 2026 UK media landscape, not a fixed channel list.
For direct-response campaigns the question is straightforward: which channels can deliver the required enquiry or sale volume at an acceptable cost-per-response, and can we measure it cleanly? For brand work it is more nuanced: which formats reach the right audience at a frequency sufficient to move consideration, over what timeframe?
Often the answer is both. A broadcast campaign builds mental availability while a press or digital layer carries the short-term response load. We plan both from the same brief, buying each to its strength rather than treating them as alternatives.
Every channel we plan in, we buy in-house. There is no referral to a specialist desk, no margin added at an unseen stage. The plan we propose is the plan we execute.
What late space means in practice
A significant share of VCM's buying is late space — airtime, press positions and outdoor sites that media owners need to fill in the days and weeks before transmission or on-sale. We buy this at well below rate card: typically 40–70% off in broadcast, and materially below in press and outdoor.
Late space is not a compromise. It is the same airtime as anything booked months in advance — the same station, the same time band, the same audience. The difference is price, because the inventory would otherwise go empty.
Not every campaign is suited to late buying. If you need a specific date for a product launch, or a fixed page position in a particular edition, late space cannot guarantee it. But for advertisers with some flexibility on timing — and most can accommodate two to four weeks of lead time — it consistently delivers more media weight for the same budget.
